Warehouse jobs take more work than the average person assumes. Employees need experience in manual labor, driving, shipping, receiving parcels, distribution of materials, and management. These skills can be learned and taught in several different situations. However, some experience and/or knowledge of the work done in a warehouse will help put you ahead of the pack, so list all the experience you have in these areas. The following are especially helpful:
Management experience and/or training. Since warehouse jobs require great management for operations to run smoothly, and training or previous work history in this area will definitely help you land the job. This could be from management positions at retail shops, restaurants, or other warehouse jobs.
Experience in shipping. Filling, shipping, and receiving a high volume of orders can get complicated, which is why warehouse workers with some training in this process will have a leg up on the competition. If you have experience handling goods of any kind, even if it’s from a retail job where you unpacked clothing items, it is worth mentioning.
Computer skills. A lot of shipments are tracked with computers nowadays, so competency with basic programs will help you get the job. If a hiring manager sees you are familiar with computers, they will know you’ll need less training than other candidates.
Education. If you have an associate’s degree or other degree from a college, it will show you are competent and intelligent. It will be even more impressive if that degree has to do with Resource Management or another type of Business degree.
